My Story
My name is Lynn and currently I'm residing on the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium.
Born and raised in Rotterdam. A water-loving redheaded city girl is what most people used to know me by ... I developed
a deeper passionate love for oceans and beaches, while living in the Caribbean for over ten years.
Grew up in Rotterdam with a brother (who build this beautiful webshop) and two sisters. My mom gave me the gift of creativity. She used to make fancy clothing for me and later on also for her three grandsons ... Batman, Robot, Superman ... no costume was crazy enough. Yes, my mom is a great inspiration for myself as an artist and later on in life made sure she kept my fire burning while gifting me artsupplies and artworkshops for my birthday ... to develop and find my strength and courage to pursue this dream I have of becoming a fulltime artist.
... a mom of four boys... a navy wife to a beautiful sailor guy. Life was a roller coaster. I worked full time but always found time to create unique gifts for our friends and family, wedding favors, invitations, special birthday parties for our sons, pretty soon I started receiving requests from family and friends. You gotta love creating.
I left my job working as a legal clerk for nine years in my late twenties and moved to Curaçao with my husband and our sons. The waters surrounding the islands in the Caribbean are mesmerizing, their strength and incredible blue colors inspired me. When a friend took me and our boys to 'Houtjesbaai' and ' Boca Seaglass' (named the latter myself ;-)) the spark was lit ... started off reusing all treasures cast ashore. Creating beautiful unique & original ocean art with it.
After surviving a severe stroke in 2010 where rescue came too late, due to hurricane Thomas which destroyed the island, I was left paralyzed right-sided. Far away from our family ... myself, my husband, our sons were in a state of shock and tried to get back on track. With the help of friends on the isle we made it work. And after rehabilitating for 1.5 years we were almost back to a 'normal life'. After receiving a DIY driftwoodkit from a friend and a woodburner from my mom ... my motor skills were challenged again ... focusing my attention on creating art full-time. Let's see what this broken body and mind could produce! Our beautiful porche filled with different artworks when hubby and a friend started convincing me to go out there and try a Christmas market. To my delight my art got sold and my confidence grew. Soon my work was in local souvenirshops and the cruise terminal. Mostly self taught, I started researching different ways to create my art. Experimenting with different art materials as acrylic, alcoholic inks, markers, resin and mixing mediums I realized I loved it all.
Now some years later, and another unfortunate stroke in 2019 further, I still refuse to give up and try to keep taking on new challenges for myself. Life is so short and I want to try it all. As long as that Big Blue is in there somewhere ... painted ... poured ... in wood or seaglass form ... in drawings or writing. The Big Blue rules.
So ... my subject stays the same. Those blue waters surrounding us are full of mystery and adventures. Every piece tells a story ... my story ... your story ... I want to bring that free and adventurous feeling to you.
